  Agricultural Science & Technology Courses Offered

*Intro. To World Agricultural Sci. & Tech. --1101 .5 credit (1 sem.)
Prerequisite: Grades 9-12
     

This is the entry-level course and is appropriate for freshman,but can be taken at any grade level. It includes career development, leadership, introduction to FFA, communications, personal finance, and cold metal skills. This course will be linked with Applied Agricultural Science & Technology.

 *Applied Agricultural Sci. & Tech.--1102 .5 credit ( 1 sem. )
Prerequisite: Grades 9-12

This course is also appropriate for freshman, but can be taken at any grade level. The course includes tools and wood shop, soils, and plants, animals, food science, leadership learned through hands-on activities in the school's farm/garden. Students will be involved in various activities through FFA. This course will be linked with Introduction to World Agricultural Science and Technology.

 *Wildlife & Recreation Management --1103  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course covers the fast-growing Environmental Industry. It includes hunter safety certification, wildlife identification, taxidermy, recreational and wildlife management control. This course will be linked with Energy & Environmental Technology.

 *Energy and Environmental Tech. --1104  .5 credit ( 1 sem. )
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course is designed to explore interrelationships of people and natural resources with special emphasis on conservation and protection. This course will be linked with Wildlife & Recreation Management.

 * Animal & Plant Production -- 1105  .5 credit ( 1 sem. )
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course includes principles of animal and plant production and the management of soils as related to agriculture. Students will have hands-on experience with plants animals at the school's farm. This course may be linked with Animal Science or Equine Science.

 *Animal Science --1106  .5 credit ( 1 sem. )  
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course is designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to nutrition, reproduction, health and management of domestic animals. Students will have hands-on experience with management and surgical procedures involved in animal science. This course is needed by students entering the fields of biotechnology, veterinary science or genetics. This course may be linked with Animal & and Plant Production.

 *Equine Science --1108  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course is more in-depth animal science course dealing with the horse. Students will learn concepts of nutrition, reproduction, selection, training and management of the horse and other related species. This course will be linked with Animal & Plant Production.

 *Intro to Horticultural Sci. --1109  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12 and Animal Plant Production is recommended.

This course is designed to introduce the student to horticultural sciences. Students will learn how to produce plants in the greenhouse setting. This course will be linked with Landscape Design, Construction, & Maintenance.

 *Landscape Design, Const., & Maintenance --1110 .5 credit ( 1 sem.)
Prerequisite :Grades 10-12

This course is designed to prepare students to design, construct and maintain planted areas around homes and businesses. Students interested in the growing and profitable field of Landscape Design need to take this course. This course will be linked with Intro. to Horticulture Sciences.

 *Agribusiness Management --1111  .5 credit  ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12
 

This course is designed to introduce the student to Agribusiness management in the fee enterprise system. Students study the commodities market and simulate investments in it, study economic principles, budgeting, business law and careers. This course will be linked with Personal Skills Development or Entrepreneurship.

 *Personal Skills Development --1113  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite:
Grades 10-12

This is a comprehensive course in developing leadership, citizenship and cooperation. Students will learn proper speaking skills, communications, interpersonal relationships, and personal development. This course will satisfy the students speech credit for graduation, when completed with Agricultural Communications.

 *Agricultural Communications .5 credit ( 1 sem. )  
Prerequisite: Intro to Ag Mechanics & App. Science & Tech.

This course is designed to introduce the student to agricultural communications in relation to utilizing appropriate spoken,  written, and visual communication techniques and procedures. This course will be linked with Personal Skills Development.

 *Entrepreneurship --1114 .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course is designed acquaint the student with the entrepreneurial opportunities in America. The student will investigate new business opportunities and learn what it takes to start a business. This course may be linked with Agribusiness Management or Personal Skills Development.

 *Intro. To Agricultural Mechanics --1115 .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12

This course is designed to familiarize the student with basic theory and specialized skills in the areas of tool identification and safe use, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, masonry, fencing, painting, metal working and welding. This course is a prerequisite to all other mechanics courses. This course will be linked with Agricultural Metal Fabrication.

 *Agricultural Metal Fabrication --1116  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12 and Intro. to Ag. Mechanics.

This course is designed to teach the student welding in the metal working process. Students are required to build a metal project. This course will be linked with Intro. to Ag. Mechanics.

 *Agricultural Structures Technology --1117 .5 credit ( 1 sem. )
Prerequisite: Introduction to Ag. Mechanics.

This course is designed to prepare students to maintain, evaluate, design, and build structures using approved construction techniques. This class will build an approved structure. This course will be linked with Ag. Power Technology.

 * Agricultural Power Technology --1118 .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12 and Intro. to Ag. Mechanics.

This course is designed to develop skills necessary to maintain and repair the small air-cooled engine, hydraulic motors, electric motors, and tractors. This course will be linked with Ag. Structures Technology.

 *Agricultural Mechanics Pre-Lab--1120 2 credits ( 2 sems. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12, Intro. To Ag. Mechanics, and criteria met from previous class.

This is a 2-period class for students who have had at least one Ag Mechanics class. It is designed for students who have an interest in welding, electricity, plumbing, mechanics, surveying or any other of the ag mechanics areas. Students are required to have a lab project.

 * Home Maintenance & Improvement -- 1121 .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12

In this course students will learn basic elements of home repair and apply them to real life situations through shop assignments and in-home repair opportunities. This course may be linked to Ag. Structures and Technology.

 * Food Technology --1119 .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12

This course concerning the world of food production: the processing, preparing, and packaging of foods; government regulations regarding foods; exploring occupational opportunities and leadership development. Students will learn the retail cuts of meat and grades of all food stuff. This course will be linked with Advanced Animal Science.

 *Advanced Animal Science--1112  .5 credit ( 1 sem. ) 
Prerequisite: Animal and Plant Production / Animal Science

This is an honors course designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to advanced animal nutrition, reproduction, health, biotechnology, genetics, anatomy and management of livestock. This course will be linked with Food Technology.

 *Advanced Agribusiness Management and Marketing--1107 .5 credit(1sem.) 
Prerequisite: Grades 11-12

An honors course is designed to enhance the student's knowledge learned in Agribusness Management. The student will study advanced economic principles, budgeting, recordkeeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing and careers in agribusiness. Students will be required to study the commodities and participate in the FFA Commodities Marketing Contest.
